2006 Jeep Commander
I have a 2006 Jeep Commander that
has been parked for a few days; was
working perfectly until today. It
wouldn't/ won't start. It will click but
not turn over to crank. Battery is
new. I had the starter replaced,
however, it still won't start. I'm so
lost, confused, and hurt as I've only
had this truck about a month. Not
sure what else it could be and I just
spent all my savings moving to a
new city where I don't know anyone.
Any suggestions please so I'll know
what I'm looking at on repair costs.
It could be anything, ok you have a new battery and new starter, there is a starter relay that may not be working? It could also be a bad ignition switch. If the neutral saftey switch in not working you will get a no start. A broken timing belt with not allow the car to start. A blown main fuse, breaker could be bad, if you have no power to the car. A loose connection from the battey to the starter, a bad ground...
Try this: turn on the headlights, if they are nice and bright great if not recharge the battery, next with the headlights still on try to crank over the engine, do the headlights go out, if they do then you have a bad connection, could be something simple as a dirty battery cable, or a loose ground cable at the block, if they don't got out and you still get the click, you need to check for battery power at the starter and at the solenoids small wire when you turn the key to crank, if everything checks good, then lightly tap on the starter while someone holds the key in the crank position if it cranks over then your new starter has an internal problem. HTH
my 2007 jeep commander did the same. i taught auto/deisel math. at local college but i'm 72 yrs. old and 50 yrs. as a machinist and m y own mechanic, tested nada! got out wrench tapped starter black relay in slot 33 said starter. same as you new battery, new cable ends, lights on but no crank just click. old fasion rap on top, bingo started. get a new one. plug it in. keep old onein glove box.
