Why is my 2001

Asked by DB Nov 30, 2017 at 09:35 PM about the 2001 Buick Park Avenue Ultra FWD

Question type: General

I have a 2001 park avenue ultra supercharged it
used too be my grand dad car he kept the car
maintenance and update. I recently took over the
car after he pass away a few weeks ago, on
thanksgiving a few weeks ago i had check the
fluids and noticed the oil was a qt of oil off so i
purchase some cheap motor oil 10w40 and pour
some into the motor. Ok took a hour road trip the
same night it was running find. The next morning
on my way to wrk driving the buick the check
engine light flashes on for 30 seconds then went
off. I got to wrk check the everything under the
hood and plus the gas cap everything was cool.
Got off of wrk and it was cool. Later on that night
coming home from a event the check engine light
comes on again but its not flashing. 15mins into
the drive i felt i was losing power and noticed
smoke in my rearview so i pull over just to hear
some kind of tapping inside the motor with white
smoke coming out the tail pipes. I was thinking its
the heads but i dnt know. Wen i check the car after
getting it tow from the side of the freeway at 4am.
When i start the car it still make that tapping noise
the whiye smoke still comes out the tail pipes. The
noise starts off loud then a few mins the noise
calm down a bit. Can anybody help me on this
question? And my biggest fear is that the motor is
going out, now i dnt know if its my grand daddy
tryn to tell me something but somebody tell me
something plz?

The supercharged 3800 has a different intake than the standard engine so the intake gaskets are seldom the problem. What you did not tell us...... Why did you put cheap oil in grandads car? * I got to wrk check the everything under the hood and plus the gas cap everything was cool. " Does the above mean you checked both the oil level and the coolant level? * "Wen i check the car after getting it tow from the side of the freeway at 4am. When i start the car it still make that tapping noise the whiye smoke still comes out the tail pipes." Wen you checked the car after getting it tow..... Was the oil level OK? Was the coolant level OK? Also while it may not be a problem now......check the supercharger oil level. There is a plug on the front side of the supercharger snout, unscrew the plug and the oil should be up to the bottom of the plug hole....don't fill with engine oil....GM has some magic snake oil that you need to get from the Buick parts department. The car may just be rebelling because you are not driving it like grandad did......good luck.

Sounds to me you poured the oil in the wrong place. The white smoke is oil burning. If you drove it before adding the oil and it drove fine, then the added oil IS the problem. Especially showing white smoke.
