Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving to work this morning I heard a pop like something hit the car. Then I noticed the passenger side power mirror was completely black.

It sounds like you have a auto dimming mirror and it lost it's fluid.

is this an adjustable one, such that the anchor point MUST be in the center of each mirror mounting point?

must have fallen off while you were driving. That's what the pop was, if you looked back would see it lyin' in the road~

easy to be mistaken with the "shroud" around the whole assembly, you cannot tell if there is even a mirror there except to hit the adjuster~

that's right ,the reflective glass glued on the backing pad fell off and hit your door and went pop, now what?

Thanks everyone. When I got home I looked closer, it loss like the mirror popped off. Replacement glass is on its way.

when I hit a blue recycle bin avoiding a deep pothole the mirror shattered, bent back and the actual mirror piece was found 200 yds away, spider cracked but operational....later paid tire pros to do the replacement, three bolts way up in there have to undo the door liner and all that...just pay a guy, yknow?

good thing MINI has the same design for almost ten years, made finding a replacement unit cheap and plentiful....all and all 40 for the replacement unit 100 labor set me back 140 just because Clearlake is too cheap to fix the roads around here~
