What kind of transmission fluid do i use in a 1998 chevy lumina

a good parts store can help you with the right one , what it says on the dip stick may be phased out and the replacement can be used , I think they go with dextron III now , all the different tranny fluids over the years have to do with the conditioners they use , originally it was a whale oil and it worked great but something else had to be used and I guess they keep coming up with something better
