02 VW Cabrio

The garage said I need a
whole exaust system just to
fix catalydic  converter. I live
in NC. I can buy the part for
under $100 but garage wants
to charge me almost $600. Is
this true?? Are you not
allowed to replace only part
of the system?? Also, I
bought this without electronic
key. Ordered one from
dealership. Got regular key
not electronic. They said
wasnt available any more &
this one didn't need
programed. Have had
problems since using this key.
Getting rid of it unless you
could suggest other options.

I have a catalytic converter code coming up. Car is not dependable. Check engine light went on and the car started running OK. Then a week later the light goes off and it runs like crap again. Did you find your car running poorly with the catalytic converter code? Does this sound similar? Did you get a resolution? I'm about fed up with this car!
