My 2000 VW cabrio dies suddenly about a mile down the road. Starts up again after 4 or 5 tries. Runs good after. Changed coil pack. Any ideas. Repair show stumped as it does not die all the time

Engine still dying occasionally codes say short to ground. Somewhere. Could it have something to do with a new battery I put in just before this problem.? It does not happen all the time, but afraid to drive it.
