Is it normal for the RPM's to run high on the volkswagen cabrio
Does seem a bit high, is your overdrive working?
hmmmm, you are talking to a woman, it seems like the transmission changes 3 times up to 60 but then again to me it seems like it only changes 2 times. I talked to someone at Volkswagen they said they didnt recommend changing the tranmission fluid that it could cause more problems, and if they did check it, that it would cost 350.00 to 400.00. im not really sure about the overdrive at all. Any suggestions
It is impossible for the engine to run 28,000 RPM. The top level on the tachometer is about 7,000 to 8,000. You are more likely saying that your Cabrio is running 2,800 RPM at 60 MPH. This would mean that the tachomtere is at about the 11 O'clock position when you are doing 60 MPH. If this is the case, the engine is at the normal speed for 60 MPH.
That is unless you are in over drive, in which case the engine will run at about 2,300 RPM at 60 MPH. It could be that your cabrio is not shifting into its top gear (called overdrive) used for cruising at 60 MPH on the highway. Take it to a mechanic (not VW), or a friend who knows something about cars, and ask them to take it for a test drive with you to see what they say. It sounds like you are driving an automatic transmission, rather than a tick manual shift.
