Car randomly stall/dies on me

Asked by Breanne Feb 07, 2018 at 10:15 AM about the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi! I have a 2000 Chevy Cavalier. Occasionally the car will shut off/stall on
me while I'm driving. I haven't noticed a trigger just signs that it's going to do
it.
Usually I have the air on when it happens and the air will kind of falter and
then the next time I start to break and get to about 10mph the engine will cut
off, the oil light, and battery light will click on. At this point I'm usually trying to
pull into a parking spot so thankfully I'm not in a dangerous situation and am
able to stop, put her in park, and shut her off. Then I can put my key in and
start her back up completely normal. I live in Michigan so the weather can be
both hot and cold. It's been happening more frequently now that it's winter
and I have the heat on frequently so it's starting to concern me. Thanks for
any advice or help.

There are a number of reasons this can happen, so I would take it to a service shop and have the engine gone over, general maintenance.
