I took the pipes off my Dodge ram 1500 4.7, it drove good for a week or so, then it started shutting down. It'll idle then cut off. If I put the tail pipe back on it, will it run normally?
Is there a catlaic converter on it?
Most likely not, I don't know how far you went removing the exhaust system, but if you removed the muffler you may have damaged the rear O2 sensor, you will need to have the vehicle scanned to find out the actual trouble. Have you looked under the rig for any heat related wiring damage?
Yeah, there is. I just removed the pipe that connects to the muffler. There's no wiring damage. If so I'll have to change those.
I agree you probably damaged the O2 sensor(s). If open pipe loudness is what you want like for off-road or drag racing buy & install some tube headers. They have a threaded hole in the collectors for O2 sensors. Open the exhaust system anytime you want at the collector flanges. (A 3 bolt pattern, just remove 2 of the bolts on each collector & slide the exhaust pipes over, tighten the remaining bolt to hold the system open & pipes.) Check Jeg's or Summit racing catalogs for tube headers for your Dodge truck.
