Asked by Sep 18, 2016 at 11:23 PM about the 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 2 Dr Laramie SLT Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed the transmission and at fist it was fine.
After an hour of testing it the transmission started

Check the transmission speed sensor

Check the codes, it should tell you if there is a problem with the solenoids. Does it do the same thing cold or only when warmed up? Did you reset the computer after the tranny was installed?

Now the truck wont gear into 1st gear. It only gets reverse and 3rd gear. And no I didn't rest the computer. Do I need to reset it. How do I reset it. The check engine light came on and got these two codes. P0132 and p0134. I really don't know what to do because it's doing the same thing it did with the other transmission.

Both of those codes refer to O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1, so as you have had the tranny out make sure it is plugged in and the sensor is not damaged, if that checks the the sensor is most likely bad. To reset the computer on make and model you disconnect a battery cable, turn on the headlight switch, wait at least 1 minute, turn off the headlight switch, reconnect the battery cable, the system is now reset back to factory presets, if that didn't cure your problem then the system will have to be live data scanned, it is possible that the TCM is messed up or there are some sensors that are out of specs but not enough to throw a set of tranny codes.

Hopefully that would work cause it's doing the same thing the old transmission is doing. And I don't think both have the same exact issue. Yesterday we put in the other transmission
