F-350 what is this

I suspect that is a rubber buffer for the tail gate. Open up the gate and look on both sides where it latches. Maybe one buffer is missing.

thank you. I looked today real quick and the gate did not seem to be missing anything. I will look closer in the morning.

I would look at the bed where the gate latches. I may be wrong but this is my guess.
