Ignition lock cylinder

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Please help! I had the whole key locked in the
ignition problem. There was always a little wiggle
to where I put my key in  so if I did not  make sure
that it was sitting in the correct spot even when the
key was out I would still see like the battery light on
I guess on this particular day I didn't check it and it
killed my battery. I tried to jump it but assuming
because it is still in the  "on" position  it wasn't
getting any juice and would not start so I went and
bought a new ignition lock cylinder. I was able able
to get the key out but when I went to put in the new
cylinder I cannot get it to go all the way in it's lined
up correctly  I can get it in just not all the way. I go
to put my foot on the brake it's real hard to press
down and I cannot push the button on the gear
shifter in to move it in any type of position like
neutral or park or anything. So basically my ignition
is locked up and now I'm unable to get the old or
the new cylinder back in and locked in place.

1A Auto has a great video......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LLOWeP-dvg Your original problem is likely the ignition switch, not the lock cylinder. It's located underneath the cylinder, black box. Need to remove steering wheel cover to get to it. The ignition switch is very common to go out in our platform and cause the symptoms you described. I'd check your neutral safety switch too for the shifter/gear problem.
