On my 2005 F-150,I have a rubbing/grinding noise (with rotation) coming from the right front tire area. it just started. I have not been able to look at it yet. What should I look at first?
check the whell bearings
Then check the brakes.
I'm working on a friend's 01 Ford F-150 4x4 that had a growling noise in the left front. I inspected the entire front end and the axle on the driver's side of the differential was loose so I removed the front differential, pulled the cover, removed the 8mm bolt and the pin and spider gears and discovered that the spacer and spider gear on that side were severely worn causing slop in the spider gear. All bearings were in great shape. I'm waiting for the new spider gears and spacers now. I hope that fixes it.
