Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1995 ford f150 4x4 with a 4EOD automatic
transmission when i go to start it i push the brake in
make sure it is in park. I then turn the key to the on
position all lights inside the dashboard come on
doorbell rings as well and i go to start it and when i
turn it over nothing happens it doesn't fire or turn
over or nothing so i put the transmission into neutral
get underneath the hood and jump the solenoid with
something and it starts wright up and stays running
with no problems but when i shut the ignition off it
won't start up again what is the problem

It has to do with something that senses weather or not its in park or in neutral to prevent it from starting with the ignition.

There has to be something thats not telling the truck and tyranny that it is in park. So that it will start with the key.

The starter solenoid is bad or possibly corroded solenoid connection....clean solenoid connection or replace the starter When you are shorting the solenoid you are bypassing it therefor the solenoid is bad, if the neutral safety switch was bad it wouldn't start by shorting the solenoid because the starter relay wouldn't be energized which is how the starter get the power to work
