I think your reading it wrong. I4 or Inline 4 cylinder engine.

Do you mean I (letter I) 4. The Cavalier came with a 2.2 Liter, I4 engine: The "I" stands for "inline" meaning all the 4 cylinders are in a straight row and the 4 represents the 4 cylinders. Hope this answers your question.
