2004 Toyota Camry Overheats

Asked by Carmel Apr 18, 2020 at 07:03 PM about the 2004 Toyota Camry LE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2004 Toyota Camry LE overheats but nothing is
leaking to indicate what part is bad. There is no
white smoke coming from the exhaust or any white
bubbly substance in my oil. I had my Thermostat
changed, that lasted a few days and then my heat
went out and I put coolant in the radiator and that
made it come back for a while but then that
stopped helping altogether. When I drive it, you can
hear bubbling or boiling sound and when I turn it
off, steam comes from under the hood. What is
wrong?

Bubbling and boiling sound is most probably air in the system and from overheating. You have a leak somewhere if you have to add coolant. It's a closed system. It might be small enough you don't see it or it dry's up on the warm engine or radiator. You can also be burning it. Further investigation is required.

Sounds like you might have a bad Cylinder Head Gasket. Remove all he spark plugs for inspection. Do they look black and fouled? Crank the engine over with SP removed. Do you see coolant coming out of the SP holes?
