Why does the Suzuki grand vitara 4WD 2001 stalled while driving

I bought a Suzuki grand vitara 4WD 2001 it stalled twice while I was driving
there was no warning lights and no indication of any problems it started
leaking koolant I turned it off to cool the engine added more koolant then tried
starting it a loud noise and a puff of smoke came from the engine ....what
could be causing this serious issue?
