battery drain

Asked by Guru81814 Jan 02, 2020 at 03:32 PM about the 1995 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 95 runs through a battery a year.  I just replaced it and it ran fine for a
few days then it wouldn't start.  I heard a ticking sound coming from the
passenger side dash.  I opened the passenger door and closed it and the
ticking stopped.  The interior lights and security lights came on but it still
would not start.  Just plain dead would not even turn the starter.  I heard the
ticking sound again, I tried to lock the passenger door with the key and it
would not lock.  It will lock manually.  The passenger door seems to be
connected to this problem.

That could be the culprit for the parasitic draw. You can test that circuit with a multimeter. to see how many amps the circuit is pulling. Check out youtube on some videos on how to test by pulling each fuse one at time.

Finding the parasitic drain is the first step. Make sure you are using a top quality battery, not the el cheapo battery at KMart.

It could be your security system acting up! You can always bypass it or reset it. Just look up how for your exact car!
