What engine could I upgrade to in an 01 Subaru Forester

In theory or something practical? Practical is the exact same engine as you have now.

Am I able to pute a turbo in? If so what extra mods would be a possibility?

I don't know...are you? Lots of extra "mods" aren't optional, but necessary to run. And why do this on an old rusty dinosaur?
