Question type: Maintenance & Repair

There is popping coming from the left side and
sounds like something is loose when going over
slight bumps! How do I figure out by looking what is

You have to get the front end in the air and grab onto the wheel and try to move side to side and back and forth. I suspect a loose suspension component, like a tie-rod or worn strut mount. But could be a CV joint or ball joint, etc. A good mechanic will find the source daily quickly and replace the part. If suspension related, you will need an alignment as well.

Is there no way to check it on the ground?

You can jack the car up on one side with a jack and put a jack stand underneath. Are you doing the repair yourself? Have the proper space to work and the tools?
