Do I have to drop the fuel tank on a 1990 grand prix or is thete a trap door?

No trap door unless someone installed one, otherwise drop the tank or install a trap door. I would replace fuel filter too and full sending unit as these newer electric replacement pumps that you replace instead of the whole unit is rubbish and can tell you will be back in there again using those cheap fuel pumps.

Thanks for the info. Do you recommend a name brand of fuel pumps over another? A short list of preferred and not preferred would be great. Thanks again.

I would recommend a factory replacement part if available. Some of the aftermarket stuff is just junk.

I agree, Oem parts if you locate new, rockauto has it, just looked and has ACDELCO, & a GM RESTORATION PARTS.
