2003 Pontiac grand am gt

My 2003 Pontiac grand am gt idles high when I first
start it and accelerates by its self. Recently it’s now
starting to randomly die when driving but instantly
starts back up with no hesitation. I’ve looked up
multiple things and can’t find a solution. My uncles
who’s trying to fix the car possibly thinks it’s the
throttle body or a mass air sensor. Does anybody
have any suggestions or a possible solution to the
problem?

Your uncle is definitely on the right path. I'd clean the throttle body and MAF sensor. Also, the IAC Motor should be cleaned as well. Carbon does build up and create this issue.

Did you figure out this problem? Mine began to die on the road this winter too when driving around tight corners and over driveway curbs, but that was a loose battery cable. I have been getting the same high idles at first startup in cold weather for about 2 winter seasons now. Then showed a normal idle after heating the engine. My mechanic is unable to find the issue. (replaced the fuel pump filter one year ago) Now it is really cold outside and won't turn over the engine. Vehicle Specs 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE1 4-door 3800 3.4l 4-speed automatic 4-door sedan (all OEM parts and replacements) Located in Southern Ontario
