Service Engine Soon Light

Asked by Jan 02, 2014 at 12:39 PM about the 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Grand Am. It is always serviced and kept up. Today it did something
odd...as I came to a light, it idled like it wanted to cut off but it didn't. Then as I pulled into
work, the Service Engine Light flashed off and on a few times then went out. What could
this be?

Many different things. Since the light was one, you can pull the 4 digit codes to find out what tripped the light. Any mechanic or local auto parts stores can do this for you.

It usually means misfire or multiple misfire on the cylinders specialy when the check engine light flashes

1.- check your spark plug wires. they might be loose or worn out 2.- It could be the coils. but usually is the wires. Good luck. My email is jaimeintucson@msn.com if you have any more questions

Ok...I have an appointment for a tune-up to change the plugs and wires...will I be ok until Saturday? That is the only day they have an appointment...Yikes!
