Water running out the tailpipe

Asked by Dustin May 26, 2016 at 12:09 AM about the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am 2 Dr GT Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok it's not overheated since I put a new
water pump and thermostat in it but I have
to put water in it every time I start it. Water
just runs out the tailpipe and a lot of white
smoke. It's got the 3.4 v6 in it. What do I
need to do to fix it before it's useless

Upwards of $1k. Possible a new engine. If there are many problems with the car, dump it and get something more reliable.

Don't have the money to do that is there a solid reliable cheap fix that will get me by for a few months to a year maybe

You might be able to pull a salvaged engine and scavenge the parts for a few hundred bucks online. I would start there. Best of luck !
