Water running out the tailpipe

Asked by May 26, 2016 at 12:09 AM about the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am 2 Dr GT Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok it's not overheated since I put a new
water pump and thermostat in it but I have
to put water in it every time I start it. Water
just runs out the tailpipe and a lot of white
smoke. It's got the 3.4 v6 in it. What do I
need to do to fix it before it's useless

Cracked Head or Head Gasket Leak. Sorry. :(

What is it going to cost me to fix it ball park

Upwards of $1k. Possible a new engine. If there are many problems with the car, dump it and get something more reliable.

Don't have the money to do that is there a solid reliable cheap fix that will get me by for a few months to a year maybe

You might be able to pull a salvaged engine and scavenge the parts for a few hundred bucks online. I would start there. Best of luck !

I hate to mention this but you sound desperate, there is a product called Blue Devil head gasket repair, it's a little expensive and you can only use it once, so if it doesn't work you can't just put more in without causing more damage than you have now. I normally don't recommend using this kind of stuff can it can seal some things you don't want sealed, so do exactly as the instructions say to do. This might just get you by long enough, remember this is only treating a symptom not the cause. God Luck. HTH
