1992 grand am Car stuck in park, brake lights not working

Asked by William May 09, 2016 at 11:55 PM about the 1992 Pontiac Grand Am 2 Dr SE Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car starts up fine but won't shift out park. Worked
fine until the other day now can only shift gears if I
put ignition in first position and the brake lights
won't trigger when the brakes are pressed.

I can hear the solenoid click when i press down when I attempt to shift I believe it's possibly electrical

Then the issue is mechanical inside the shifter box... which would be weird because the only car that I'm aware of that this type of problem was the Chrysler/Dodge 2005-2008 Charger/Magnum/300. Have you checked the shifter box?
