'04 Grand Cherokee Laredo Wobbling?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought my dad's old jeep that's been
sitting a few months. The rear axel seal is leaking
and the tires have dryrot, which is the only
problems with it I know of outside of this "wobble"
it has. It's not the "death wobble" as my '91
Cherokee used to do it. When I'm driving over even
the slightest bump in the road (not even
potholes/cracks. Just uneven pavement) it tends
to wobble a little... if not slightly high wobble.

Doesn't matter if I'm going 5 mph or 60. Though it's
only noticeable at higher speeds when I hit a bump
or something on the interstate. Not sure what
could be causing it. Ball joints, sway bar? Any
opinions would be great.

The wobble feels more so based in the back of the
car from what I can tell but maybe the front too?
There's also a LOT of play in the wheel.

i suggest getting tires replaced first then have tie rods looked at... i had a similar steering issue in my vehicle and i had tie rods replaced then aligned it and its been a smooth ride and with tight steering ever since.

your dryrot tires are making the ride feel rough and if your steering components are not doing their job correctly and causing your steering to feel loose the combination of the 2 probably is why you feel like your car is wobbling.

Cookesauto, the tie rods are a good suggestion (and do probably need to be done) but I've driven cars with bad tires before. I've also had the tie rods wear out on the other jeep I had so the wobble issue is definitely coming from something else. ---------------- Ed92626 - thanks for the suggestions.

Steering damper/ stabilizer. I highly recomend looking into replacing it since the part isnt expensive and makes a world of a difference.
