My 2002 jeep grand cherokee shut off while driving

Asked by Mar 31, 2015 at 08:46 AM about the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This morning my jeep shut off on me while driving it. The jeep has been idiling rough and
the engine light comes on then goes off after a few days. When i put it in park and tried to
restart it it would not start. I turned the key to the off postion then tried to start it and it did
start. I parked it and sat with it running for a minute. Afraid i may have the issue again
later. Any ideas what may cause this?

Common Jeep problem, replace the crank and cam sensors, same thing happened to my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Replaced BOTH sensors? What were your symptoms? Mine cranks but wont catch, then once it catches (after numerous tries), it runs fine. In fact if I turn off, then try to start it back up immediately, it starts. But if it sits 10-20 minutes, I have the issue all over again. It led me to believe fuel filter. Any thoughts?

Symptoms were: driving engine would just quit, coast off to the side, wait a few minutes, it would start right up miss a little then ran fine until it would shut off again. I replaced them both due to the high failure rate of these sensors. Your symptoms are a little different than mine, it kinda sounds like a vapor lock problem, a fuel pressure and flow test might be your best bet on finding your problem.
