1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rear Signal Bulb Plug in the Wrong Way

Asked by Kent Sep 28, 2018 at 09:22 PM about the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was fixing a problem where a tail light and brake light were not working when I pressed the brake pedal (now fixed) but when I put the signal bulb plug back in somehow I got it in the wrong way (180 degrees) and now I can't get it out again.  Any ideas?  Will it help to try to get the plug panel off (there are several clips that seem to hold it in place but they seem brittle and likely to break off).

When I said the plug panel I think the proper name is the "tail lamp circuit board". I suppose I could just replace that part if I can manage to remove it.

Problem solved. If anyone else runs into this, I had a look at the lamp plug and saw that if I turned in the opposite direction hard enough I might be able to force the locking grooves backwards over the retaining surface and back into the correct slots - probably the reverse of what I did in the first place to cause the problem. I had to use a wrench to grip the plug handle to get enough force but it worked.
