does the transmission on a 1998 jeep grand cherokee have a overflow port or slot on the front of the case?

Probably not. Most auto trans have a air vent, and dipstick tube. I suspect your pan gasket or one of your coolant lines are leaking. Don't let the level go too low. it will overheat your trans and it might even shift bad, eventually ruining your transmission. Get it fixed as soon as you can. Good Luck!
