should I invest in a new transmission for a 1994 JGC with 150000 miles?
My boyfriends GC started acting up, he took it in to a local dealer and they told him the transmission is going. they gave him an estimate of 2-3K to replace it. He only bought the vehicle for 4000 awhile ago. He wants to junk it but said I could have it for the price of replacing the transmission. I just didn't know if I should invest in it, (because its still way cheaper then getting another used car) or if the chances that something else major will break. He just had the starter replaced and a new battery as well.
I would find a used transmission for it. Those vehicles are great for anything you want to do. As long as you keep the body from rusting, they'll last a while.
yea screw the stealership. 2-3 thousand for a rebuild is highway robbery. a local trans shop should do it for around 1500. like previously stated finding a used trans and putting it in would be fairly cheap, but also will have no warranty and may not last very long. how does the vehicle run? ie. does it burn oil? get abhorred gas mileage? have trouble starting? if it runs great without issues then i would definitely say replacing the transmission would be worthwhile.
