Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2005 Ford 500 SEL: I hear this intermittent noise from the rear of the vehicle when speeds top 25 mph...Its really odd. I've had the tires rotated and then replaced. That did not cure the issue. More annoying than anything. Anyone else having this issue??

What kind of noise? Is is a bad wheel bearing or brakes dragging or squeaking?

Its not a banging, clicking or dragging sound. Its a low humming that increases with speed.

Nearly every 500/Montego/Freestyle has needed rear wheel bearings. Mine were replaced during the initial 36,000 warranty. They definitely make that kind of noise. So can REALLY choppy/feathered tires that don't get rotated & aligned regularly (that is the #1 most often overlooked maintenance in the car world!) so I'm glad you checked the tires as well. But I'd go for the bearings next. If they're really bad you can wiggle the wheel left & right when they're off the ground/jacked up.
