1993 Ford Bronco Sputtering and Missing

Asked by Tylertgl Apr 12, 2012 at 10:19 PM about the 1993 Ford Bronco XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck starts and runs, but sputters and misses when at idle, gets much worse when driven. During sputtering, Volt gauge on dash goes crazy and orange airbag light (I think thats what it is) flickers on dash. Just replaced the Alternator, Starter, and Distributor last week. Transmission rebuild and new engine mounts less than 2,000 miles ago. All of the ignition leads to the distributor are new and on correctly. Have not checked the ignition coil itself. Had to rewire the fuel injection electrical harness after a bad short about 7,000 miles ago (the replacement part is no longer made). In the process of taking that off and checking for further shorts and bad connections. Also, all of the tiny red and green hoses around the EGR sensor and the back of the intake manifold are dry and cracked.
Could the Hoses being cracked cause this sputtering and loss of power? Could a bad ignition coil cause this? What about a bad O2 sensor? Does the EGR actually do anything on these trucks? Help please.

really all the egr does is recollects extra un burnt gas fumes, and re uses them in your engine to help stop polluting the environment. from the sounds of it, you have a bad short out, or your fuse box may possibly be shot.

try the ignition coil that's what was wrong with mine. All I did was buy the new one plug it in and it worked. If it didn't work I was just going to return it. Much easier than trying to test it.
