Abs light, airbag light and no radio

Asked by TDIsandtacos Nov 05, 2019 at 08:28 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 1LT Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado and it has
been getting more and more issues. It started
with a abs light, there are no codes to be
found in the computer, but there is a light.
Next, the airbag light came on. Shortly after
the airbag light came on, the radio quit
working. I’ve tried the ground under the cab.
There are no codes so I don’t have anywhere
to start.

You need to scan the ABS and airbag system for codes when the lights are on and the engine is running. Each time you shut off the engine these two computers are cleared. You also need to have a code reader or scan tool that will communicate with the ABS and airbag computers. For the ABS system a clue is whether the light remains on when you start the engine or if it goes off then comes on when the vehicle starts moving. If the light remains on it's one of the wheel speed sensors or the wiring going to the sensor. If the light goes off then comes back on when the vehicle starts moving it's the pump and modulator assembly. The ABS computer tests the system, except the pump and modulator assembly on start up. When the vehicle starts moving the computer tests the pump and modulator assembly by cycling it once. If the test fails the ABS light will then come on after the vehicle is moving. Did your horn stop working when the airbag light came on? If so it's most likely the clock spring in the steering column just behind the steering wheel. To be sure, get the trouble code first. Don't want to misdiagnose the problem. Hope that helps! Jim
