4wd Z71 wheel size

Asked by vetteaddict Jan 05, 2010 at 07:16 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 3LT Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: General

Hello-All the charts I can find on Wheel sizes show all 2006 1/2 ton silverado's can use a 16 inch wheel.  I tried a factory 16 inch GM Wheel and it would not fit in the front because of the size of the brake calipers.  The rears fit fine. I have a 4wd with Z71. I really like some 16 inch wheels for sale locally, but don't want to have to try one on first.  Thought I would try this forum.  Thanks

Not the 06 Z-71's they have bigger brakes on the front than other GMT-800 series trucks.

I have a 2006 and factory tires were 17 ' s . You can also go up one size ---- to 18's like I have for summer use... I wouldn't recommend 16's for a truck.....

Yes I have and its sketchy and not safe to do so. I have a 2000 Silverado and im trying to put 15" wheels on it and it keeps rubbing on the inside of the rear wheels. So I tried grinding down the calipers about 2-3cm and it still seems to rub. If i go any further it will become a safety hazard. I ordered 1" spacers to see if it will give enough clearance but it is still really close. I think 16"-17" wheels is the minimum you can go.
