Overheating

My hotcoolant light. Comes on after driving.
For about 15 mins. I put water in it it xools
down for a minthen starts back up

Sounds like the thermostat needs to be changed. May want to check engine compression to see if there is a blown head gasket also. And make sure the fans are working on the radiator.
