Is it worth anything?

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

I have a 1985 Z28 Camaro with most of the options. It has the high output
engine. It is an orange color with gold and brown stickers. (as you can tell, I
don't know much about cars). However, my father has stored it outside since
about 1997. I asked to have the car many times and offered him cash, but he
wouldn't let me have it. It has some personal value to me. I don't have the
cash or the ability to restore it as much as I would love to. Anyway, we are
now cleaning up his property as he is in assisted living. The car is rough, but
it was such a gem that I am afraid to just scrap it. Do you have any
recommendations on what it would be worth? Just scrap prices?

This sounds like a car worth keeping and restoring but restoration is expensive and typically costs far more than the car is worth when finished. If it is rust free and complete you have a car that is restorable. I would put air in the tires, move it into a garage and evaluate it before deciding what to do with it.

Fair condition pricing is listed around $1700. I found one restored online for $15K asking price. Like FOR said, if your paying someone to repaint, redo the mechanicals, suspension and other bits, you will have far more into it than that. It all comes down to if you really want to bring it back to life.

Was there a fire near the rear of the car? Was it running when it was parked? It is rough. I would sell it unless it has serious sentimental value.

No fire. Just sitting outside. It is just algae and dirt. Hard on the paint. It does have a dent in the bumper. Yes it was still running when my dad parked it. If I sell it, what would it be worth, in your opinion? It does have pretty serious sentimental value, but I don't think my husband will want to put money in it because he still needs to restore his '65 Vette. Not to say he would be against it though. My brother and I drove that car to high school together and weekend parties. My brother was killed in a car accident in 1987, three months before I graduated. He was 20 yo. I have a lot of memories of him in that car. However, my memories are in my heart, so I wouldn't be totally against selling it.

Good luck. If it was running you would get more money but it will be a considerable amount of work to clean out the fuel system to get it running. The Vette is a much better choice to put money in. In the condition it is in you could try asking a couple of grand and see if you get any bites.
