Gas or Diesel

Question type: General

I am looking to get a new truck soon, this will be
my second truck. A upgrade. I have now a 2001
Dodge Dakota slt 4 door 3.9 L V 6 with 16.5 mpg
average. I am looking for something now in the
range of a 2002-2007 GMC or Chevrolet 2500 gas
or Diesel, I don't have much to tow, except maybe a
2000-3000  pound boat with trailer.  I want a lift
when I get it maybe 3 ish inches and bigger tires
maybe 33"? I am having trouble deciding a truck.
They're both nice. Gas or Diesel?

You don't need diesel for 3,000 pounds. Gas trucks can tow well over 10,000 pounds.

How well do you think I'd do on mileage on a gas? Chevy or GMC? And also what year between 2002- 2007 is best?

Mileage will vary with load, engine, gearing, speed and those big tires won't help. My F150 would probably get 15 on the highway with a 3,000 pound trailer.

F_O_R, what engine in them should I look for that's best then? I see a lot of them having the Vortec engine. It's 6.0.

That is up to you. If you only want to tow light loads you could go with a smaller engine. If you want fuel economy look at a Ranger or other mid-sized pickup.
