Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had my vehicle at the mechanic and got it back with a
dead battery, or so I thought. As soon as you hook it up to
jumper cables you have about 4 sec to start it and if you
do it in that time it starts right up but after 4 sec
everything just goes dead and I mean everything and is
completely dead. The battery is brand new it’s got good
connections. If you detach the cables and hook them
back up it’s like it resets something and gives you about 4
sec again to start it. And once you start it if you turn it off
it will not start again everything will be completely dead. I
checked all relays and fuses and I’m not sure what’s
wrong.

Lift the hood - turn your headlights on and hold a large screwdriver by the shaft using the handle to tap the wires coming off the battery until you see your headlights flicker ... if they flicker then you have found the source of the problem ... if nothing happens then check the red wire that comes from the battery for a "fuse link" that could be open inside the wire
