Ford Ranger, Chevy S10, Dodge Dakota all fill the role of cheap used trucks and parts are about of cheap and plentiful as they get.

A 2wd Tacoma. From year they made the first till now, they last, good on gas, easy as heck to maintain. I have a s10 blazer paid $1500 for in 2001 still going but has had somw work here and there like A/c, brakes, shocks, throttle body rebuild, sensors, exhaust, intake gaskets, alt, belt tensioner, idler pulley, 2 fuel pumps. The stock radio is junk but they are easy to break into so I do not want a good stereo in it. but has been good to me its the 4.3l. Its reliable. Get fair gas mileage in my book too as long as you keep your foot out of it. Its the 1992 model cannot speak for the other years other than a friend has a 88 with 460k miles on it..

are you talking about NEW trucks? all the new ones are not owner friendly- Just find that rare, one-owner, Toyota pick up the older the better- but be aware, EVERYBODY is looking for these- put on your hunting outfit, pith helmet, khaki jacket, camo face paint- then get on your computer and hunt through craigslist- ebay if you have to- find that rare, 2 wheel drive beast- the old, cherry, Toyota pick up-

New - Toyota as Ford no longer sells the Ranger. Used - Ranger and Toyota. The S-10's and Dakota's should be avoided.
