2002 ford escort 4 door sedan crank bout won't start wat could be my problem

Could be a couple things, No fuel getting to the cylinders (fuel pump, injectors) or spark plugs not firing (distributor, wires). Does it act like it's going to start? If so step on the gas once quickly when it seems like it's about to turn over. This one might need a mechanic though...
