Should I pull my car from a mechanics garage

Question type: General

In June 2020 I developed a blown head gasket  I
thought so took it to local garage that had dynoed
my car at the end of 2019.he thought samething. I
now going to have it rebuilt like I have wanted to do
adding more horsepower. So I asked if they wanted
to do it .they said yes but couldn't get to it until
January. I also had looked into a turnkey 600 hp
motor built by kauffman. All top of line parts built
by a exclusive pontiac builder .any car guy knows
Pontiacs are a little harder to build like a Ford or
chevy.would recieve crate in December perfect
timing .so after much thought I decided to give a
local shop my business .so I told them they could
rebuild it if they could have it done by June 2021
and if they had enough knowledge to build a high
horse power pontiac they said yes ..so instead of
talking it to another shop or crate  I decided to wait
for them give them my business .I also take my car
to many car shows as it is a show car which would
put thier name out there as I would tell people who
built this pretty piece.so now it's late February so I
call them they say they will be ready for car in a
week .month goes by ..I call they say bring it down
will start work on Monday. Done .month goes by I
call to see if they got motor out so we could go
over what I wanted .they have not touched it .little
aggravated in conversation he tells me he isn't
doing the build because he doesn't have the
knowledge like his dad so his father will build it.
Heck of a time to tell me but ok don't care who
builds it as long as it's done right .So I tell his dad
455 block if mine no good let me know I will find a
block .550 hp all new parts pretty much use top of
line or close to it msd ignition harmonic balancer
.just normal high horse power things associated
with a high horse power motor .so by now if u add
up all the time it's now may no chance to get it by
June lucky to get it by July or August. Not to
happy. 3 weeks go by so I call to see what's going
g on no answer  he calls me back at 1100 pm .he
tells me they r using a 428 block and have to move
motor mounts Humm what .then I ask him about
ordered parts now I had taken them 10000 dollars
when I dropped off car earlier. He says he got
some I asked him about msd he tells me that yes
we should put msd in it but mine was adequate. I
know this but not what I asked for .so I tell him I
am going with a Serpentine system he says what's
that .is that all the stuff on front of motor well yeah
I say I tell him I will pay for it and have it sent to
shop he says no let's wait ...I'm thinking why wait
what's that so later in conversation I tell him I'm
not trying to build a 30000 motor he says but u r
building a fucking pontiac. What u say I'm thinking
.now this crate which I could have got was a 600
hp turn key all top of line pieces and that also
comes with Serpentine system for 15000 by
kauffman racing beautiful motors great
workmanship. So I go to thier shop they r closed
until memorial day because they all took a road trip
for a week and a half ..so I text him and give him a
link where I found 4 455 blocks decked
manuflaxed pressure tested ask him to pick out
the block he liked best because they were different
prices some standard bore some already bored a
little .and that I would buy it no response so I
texted him the next day told him I don't want 428
let me know what 455 block u want me to get no
response yet .so basically this summer will be
pretty much over before I get it back and my
confidence in them building it properly has
diminished and not to happy about the
unprofessionalism.so if u were in my shoes would
u pull the car from shop just get a crate if I do pull
it should I feel bad .or give them a chance to right
the situation.

So, the condensed version is you dropped the car off a year ago and the shop hasn't done anything to the engine yet. To me, this is a no brainer. They obviously don't want to be bothered with this project or they can't do the job for whatever reason. Go get your car and either do the work yourself or get a reputable shop to install a crate motor with the upgrades you want!! As for feeling bad. Why should you? From what you're saying they're not holding up their end of the deal. Don't pay them any money either for anything! If it winds up in court, so be it. If your account of the events of the past year is accurate they'll lose! Hope that helps! Jim
