Engine compatibility and replacement

Can I use the motor in my 97 Gmc
Sierra SLE 1500 (5.7 vortec) and
swap it out with the motor in my
88 Chevy Cheyenne/Scottsdale
2500 trouble free?

I would think so as long as you switched out the wiring harness to go with it??? Not exactly sure??? They both have 350's

Nope, a 1997 is OBD II. But a 1988 is OBD I. They're completely different computer control systems and they're not compatible with each other at all. You need a 1994 or older motor. Hope that helps! Jim
