Car squeals when lights are on, why?

Asked by Jan 31, 2017 at 07:05 PM about the Toyota Yaris

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have noticed my car squealing recently, thought it was my breaks as need new break discs, then when I pressed the clutch it squealed and occasionally squealed when accelerator was pressed.  It doesn't squeal in the morning or afternoon but only at night when I have my lights on-what can be causing it? My car is really old (about 15 years old but has regular servicing)

Either the belt or diode in the alternator is bad.
