Car sputters coming into second gear

2004 c240 wagon 115k sputters going into second gear. 4 Matic. No issues past 2nd.
Rides extremely well.

....already suspecting a bad/foul EGR valve, if you got one, take it apart and blast it with brake cleaner and re-assemble it~
