Truck not starting

Asked by GuruX82XW Nov 09, 2018 at 02:44 PM about the Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2012 Dodge Ram. Engine cranks but would
not run.  Sometimes after trying several times
it would start.  Changed the fuel pump out
and checked all fuses.  Still no luck.  What
else could keep truck from receiving fuel?

Fuel pumps also run off a fuel pump relay. Then check fuel filter and pressure. If that all checks out, you may be lacking spark. Scan for codes too. Those may uncover a spark related problem like crank and cam sensor failures.

My Dodge Caravan has issues with relays and not starting. I changed out the fuel pump relay this week when it tried starting but died because of no fuel getting through. The thing is the relay is still good that I took out! So if you determine the relay was your issue do not toss the old one and always carry a spare new one. Mine uses 3 different relays and I have a new one of each in the vehicle as I have had to change out one of each several times since owning it. I know the one I pulled is still good because I used it to replace the starter relay another time it would not start(desperation and praying) and it started! Something about Dodges electrical!

My 2011 1500 has been plagued with electronic/electric issues. I bought this truck 6 mnths ago. Same problem, crank no start, on the side of the road for 2 days. Found a way to bypass fuel pump relay which is soldered in on inside of TIPM (fuse box). Jumper wire from fuse M7 +12v to fuse M25 fuel pump relay 12v supply. M7 has a 12v with key on slot which only gives power when key is in on/run position. Has started ever since. I don't know if this will create other problems though. Dodge people couldn't give me a straight answer. It got me home and is still working, 3 weeks now. hope this might help someone. Please note: If the jumper wire is shoved in the M7 location that is power all the time the battery will drain overnight compounding the issue. I have other problems with the WIN module, wire harness connectors causing intermittent headaches, this fix above got me out of a desperate situation though. Again hope this might help someone.
