2002 pontiac sunfire water light on and off

my sunfire is runner alittle hotter than usual, and while driving if i come to a stop
the water light comes on. As I get back into motion the light goes off.

Check to see if your cooling fans are coming on. Motion will pass air over the engine and cool it but that does not happen if you are sitting still in traffic. That is what the fans are for.
