04 because its cheaper and performacne wise its the same i do believe.

04 is goiong to be cheaper in the long run and can find more of the parts cheaper for 04 then 05

Ya ive been saying 04 for a while, but i drove the 05 a week ago and i kinda like the center console a little better....not like ive actually been in an 04 though :(

the 04 is the stronger car, gear ratios got changed in 05 and the car was made a little more gas friendly, and less ballsy. down side is the 04 wheel bearings are kinda weak and will need replacing before an 05's would need to be. that's about the biggest differences other then the center console. i went 04. and im glad i did. also if you ever get to the point where you want the wheel options the 05 and up have then its an easy change to the 05 hub and wheel bearing. as far as performance only the best 2 are 07, and 04. its a big debate since the 07 was better geared than the 04, but the 04 is the lightest of them all. if your on a budget and want possibly the best get the 04. though you can't go wrong with any year! gotta love Subaru
