Transmission won’t shift into third gear

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 1976 olds cutlass supreme 5.7.
I’m having troubles with the transmission not
shifting into third gear. Goes into second just fine
but have not seen third. The kickdown cable has
been bypassed. The floor shifter reads D 2 1 I can
downshift from D to 2 but nothing from 2 to 1

Sounds like whoever bypassed the kick down cable might have messed up the linkage. If its not that then there's probably a problem with the transmission itself. Any transmission shop will be able to give you an evaluation and a repair estimate.

I have a 1976 Delta when I drive transmission fluid come outside of my dip stick I wonder what this could be I know someone know please help me thanks alot my number also is 5027772525

Is it leaking at the base or is fluid coming out the top? At the base, the dipstick tube may have come unseated if the bolt holding it in place is missing. If it’s out the top check that it hasn’t been overfilled. After that it’s likely time to visit a transmission shop for a proper evaluation.
