This is a somewhat common problem Ive seen on Cavaliers. When the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm starts leaking, fuel gets sucked into the vacuum line and into the air filter resonator. To test for this, drain the gas from that air intake hose, reconnect it,start the engine and while idling, pull the vacuum hose off the regulator port.Is fuel coming out of the port and is the inside of the vacuum hose wet with fuel?? If yes the fuel pressure regulator is bad.If this problem is occurring, causing a no start or hard start, flooring the gas pedal while cranking the engine will allow it to start because this method shuts the injectors off and clears the flooded engine condition after a few seconds of cranking.
