Do i need to service my airbags?

Asked by Kitti Tanka May 23, 2020 at 09:25 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Background : I have a 06 Chevy Cobalt and today i
changed out the seats because mine were worn
out and dirty. I got the 'new' seats from a Pontiac
G5, they are basically the same car and i have
switched parts out before with no issues. After the
switch my service airbag system lights came on
for both driver and passenger sides. The only thing
i did was switch out the seats, nothing else. I have
double checked to make sure the wiring is
connected properly to the new seats, they fit
perfectly, nothing is loose.
Im thinking because we had to disconnect the
battery and disconnect the wires to the seats that
one of the 2 could have caused something in the
sensors to misread from the new seats. Can this
be cleared by a code reader? (i have a friend i can
contact) or do i need to go to a mechanic and have
it serviced?
